April Community Event
Did you know that an apple tree can grow more than one apple variety? Connect with your neighbours on Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 12 pm to 2 pm at the Friends of the Marita Payne Food Forest grafting event. Come see how Loui Kakarelis, a horticulturist at the City of Vaughan, fixes trees damaged by hares this winter as he shows us how to graft.
What is grafting, you say? Grafting is to performing surgery on a tree branch or trunk to add any variety that you want. For example, you can have McIntosh apples growing side-by-side Red Delicious apples on the same apple tree. Magical!
This is a free event for the public. Get over the dreary winter with this cool event with your special neighbours and food forest aficionados. For more details, email Jean-François and Atar at mpaynepark@gmail.com
Access and parking is available via Glen Shields Ave., Clark Ave. W. and Boyne Highlands Ct. For directions, please see this image for where the food forest is located in Marita Payne Park.
